Not only did the Donner party attempt to use Truckee Route to cross the Sierra Nevada Mountains, so did other before them. Thus, there are other monuments scattered around the area.
Trains in the Sierra Nevada
Years after the Donner party, the railroads were built. Like Hastings, the engineers of the Southern Pacific railroads figured that what is now known as Donner Pass would be a great place for the railroads to travel through. Unfortunately, much like the Donner party, the trains that passed through often became stuck due to the heavy winter snows that are well associated with the area.
